David Blaine's next stunt: living underwater |
Magician David Blaine, 33, is preparing a new feat. This time, he will attempt to live underwater for seven days and nights in a "human aquarium" in New York.
As a finale, he will attempt to hold his breath underwater longer than the record of 8 minutes, 58 seconds.
The aquarium that will hold Blaine will float is a specially built 2.5-metre acrylic sphere. He will be fed through a tube and the water temperature will be controlled to help keep his core temperature close to 37 degrees C. People will be able to touch the aquarium, take photos and communicate with Blaine.
The magician prepared by training with US Navy Seals and a world class free-diving team. He will begin his challenge on May 1 and end it on May 8. The finale will air on ABC, in a two-hour live special called “David Blaine: Drowned Alive”.
Among his previous accomplishments are balancing on a small platform for 35 hours, surviving inside a massive block of ice for 61 hours and staying in a suspended acrylic box in London for 44 days, without eating.
